Getting the size right above a bed
This is where most people go wrong, so here are the numbers. Your art should be roughly two-thirds the width of the bed. A queen headboard is 60 in wide, so you want about 40 in of art — that's the 24x36 in canvas hung landscape, or two 16x20 in pieces side by side with 3 to 4 in between them. A king is 76 in wide and takes the 24x36 in comfortably.
Hang the bottom edge 6 to 10 in above the headboard. Higher than that and it floats; lower and it looks like it's resting on the bed.

16x20 in — a twin or full bed, or two side by side above a queen.
